1 Profile:
Zircon sand is a natural mineral which is occur as tetragonal crystal, and usually as an accessory mineral in metamorphic and igneous rocks and as a ***rital mineral in placer deposits. The most significant commercial sources of zircon are placer mineral sand deposits of rutile, zircon, ilmenlite and other heavy minerals. Theae deposits mainly occur as beach sands of Quaternary and Tertiary ages. The zircon sand is separate from these mineral by water, electric and magnetic separation.
Pure zircon sand is a colorless and tran***rent crystal, but usually stained by different impurities into yellow, orange, red or brown. The chemical formula of zircon sand is ZrSiO4 (zirconium silicate), theoretical composition is ZrO2 67.01% and SiO2 32.99%, bulk density is 4.6~4.7g/cm3 , hardness is 6~7, coefficient of expansion is 5.1x10-6 in 25~1500 0C, rate of thermal conductivity is 3.72W/M*K at 10000C, and rate of refraction is 1.93~2.01. Zircon sand would dissociate at 15400C and completely dissociate at 20000C into ZrO2 and SiO2, but could used at 17000C continuous.
2 Application:
a) Refractories: Applied in producing zircon brick, AZS cast brick, and Nozzle brick, etc.
b) Ceramics: used as an opacifier for various ceramics products, because of its high refraction rate and chemical stability and improving the performance of ceramics.
c) Glass: TV tube glass, etc;
d) Foundry Materials: Zircon Sand is an excellent Material for foundry, It could improve foundry products crystal composition, size precision and mechanical speciality.
